Fringe is in and there’s no better way to wear it than on your ears! Use the simple techniques that we’ll show you in this Beading Lesson to make your own stylish swingers.

To make a basic tassel, you’ll need several lengths of chain. Here’s a tip for cutting multiple pieces of chain that are the same length: Pass a head pin or eye pin through the last link on a piece of chain that is the desired length. Hang the remaining chain next to it on the pin and cut to the proper length. The pin helps straighten the chain out and makes it easier to see where to cut it.

Open the loop on an eye pin, slide the chain lengths onto it, and close the loop. Pass the eye pin through the wide end of a beading cone. Make a loop outside the cone and attach it to an ear wire. Leave the tassel earring as-is, or add beaded head pins to the last link on each piece of chain.

You can also create dramatic fringe effects with beading wire as the stringing material. Cut several piece of beading wire. Hold the wires together and pass them through a crimp bead, eye pin loop and back through the crimp bead. Crimp it. Pass the eye pin through the wide end of a beading cone and make a basic loop to attach it to an ear wire. Add a bead to each wire end and attach crimp beads to hold the beads in place on the wires. Trim off any extra wire.

More ideas for fringe earrings:

  • Attach pieces of chain to each loop on a chandelier connector.
  • Fold two long pieces of beading wire in half and crimp them onto an ear wire. Attach a charm or dangle in front of the fold.
  • Attach a Quick Links™ ring to an ear wire and hang a tassel from the ring.
  • Make the chain tassel earrings as above but cut the chain in different lengths for a fringier effect.
  • Drape a piece of chain across the center of a hoop earring. Connect beaded head pins or other drops to the piece of chain.
