Coral Corral--Knotted leather necklace

The metal beads are have big holes so leather slides through easily. Any
assortment of glass beads will go too---mix and match to create a look
that's all yours!

12 Crystal Golden Shadow rondelle crystals, 8mm
12 Paloma brass Bird Beads, 14.5 x 9mm
3 gunmetal coin buttons, 17.5mm
22 g. gunmetal wire
8 gunmetal faceted cube beads, 6mm
4 brass spacer beads, 5mm
8 brass faceted cube beads, 4 mm
42 gunmetal beaded rondelles, 5mm
10 Red czech beads, 10mm
2 bamboo coral beads, 15 x 6mm
2 large brass jump rings, 10mm
bench block and chasing hammer

Knot the Strands:

String the beads onto the leather. There is not a "right" way here. I used
the gunmetal beaded spacers on both sides of the czech and crystal beads.
Scatter the remaining faceted gunmetal and brass beads as well as the birds
throughout the strands.

Leaving a 3" tail, make a knot. Slide the first bead(s) into place and make
another knot on the other side of the last bead to secure it in place. Move
down 1/2" and make another knot, sliding the beads up and so on. Repeat
making 4 strands that measure: 7", 9", 11" and 13". Remember, each strand
should have an extra 3" on each end.

Put the tails together and string through one hole on the button. Bring
tails down next to knotted section and secure with a 4" piece of gunmetal
wire. Trim the ends of wire and leather so everything is neat.

Make the Necklace:

String a brass spacer bead, coral bead and brass spacer bead onto a wire and
finish both ends with wrapped loops to create a beaded link. Repeat.

Each chain is different, so split it in half however you like. Attach the
chain to the button links with a large brass jump ring. Skip a few links of
chain (or in my case, one big oval link) and insert the beaded coral links
with jump rings.

Make the Clasp:

Cut a 4" piece of wire and bend it in a "U" shape. Thread the button onto
the wire so each end of wire goes through a hole. Wrap one end of the wire
around the other several times and finish the end with a wrapped loop.
Attach the button to the end of the chain with a jump ring.

Make a hook shape from wire. Finish the end with a wrapped loop. Hammer
the rounded end of the hook on the bench block with chasing hammer. Connect
this to the end of the chain.
