Dealy-Bop Bracelet

Supplies

  • 28-gauge steel wire
  • 24-gauge steel wire
  • 16-gauge brass wire
  • Manufactured spring clasp, gunmetal
  • 3.5mm inner dimension mandrel
  • 12mm inner dimension mandrel
  • Heavy duty cutter
  • Round-nose pliers
  • Flat-, chain-, or bent-nose pliers
  • Nylon-jawed pliers (optional)
  • Small utility hammer with bench block
  • Needle for riffle files
  • Wire brush or steel wool
  • Renaissance wax and rag

Steps

  • Create 7 3.5-inch inner diameter brass jump rings and set aside.
  • Cut 7 36-inch lengths of 24-gauge, and 6 3-inch lengths of 28-gauge steel wire.
  • Clean all the steel wire lengths with steel wool.
  • Wrap one 36-inch length of wire around the 12mm mandrel in the same spot 20 times.
  • Pick up one 3-inch steel wire length and tightly bind all the wires on one side of the coil. Twist and turn under the ends to hide them, and cut any excess. Repeat to the remaining six.
  • Lift the coils from each side of the bunch, fanning them around to form a full circle. Repeat to the remaining six.
  • Connect all the links with the brass jump rings, being sure to add-in each link’s end coils where the circle links connect.
  • Connect the clasp with the remaining jump ring to several coils at one end.
  • Finish with wax.
