Organizing Your Workspace - Elizabeth Ward

The best reason to organize your bead stash is to maximize the amount of time you have to create and play.  Searching for needed items is just no fun.  Start by dividing your jewelry materials into broad categories such as, beads, findings, stringing materials, tools and "other" including things like bottles of resin, blocks of polymer clay, etc.  Beads can be organized by color. Place each bead into just the right sized container for maximum space efficiency.  Transparent containers work best, since they allow you to see what you have without opening bags and boxes.   Label the containers with cost, size and supplier information.   This is important for designers who sell their work and need to know the cost of the materials used to construct their pieces.  Findings can be sorted by metal finish, and also by function.  A portable caddy for your basic pliers and crimper tools is very handy and can live on your work table.   Time is a precious commodity and once organized, you will have more time to enjoy those beautiful beads!
