Katie Hacker and Candie Cooper share a quick lesson on making silk beads in the Beading Lesson.

Ribbon Wrapped Beads from Necklaceology
Candie Cooper

Basic Materials:
Tapestry needle
Large holed wood beads
Sari silk
Seed beads
Sewing thread and needle
Leather (optional)
Large holed brass beads (optional)

  1. Thread the silk ribbon through the tapestry needle.
  2. String a bead onto the ribbon, take the needle back through the center of the bead to make one wrap.  Continue wrapping and when you’ve covered the entire bead, trim the ribbon and tack the end with adhesive.
  3. Optionally, you can embellish the surface of the bead by stitching a design with sewing thread and adding seed beads.
  4. String your beads however you like—you may need to attach the tapestry needle to your stringing material to make it easier.
