Rippled Bangle Redoux
By Melissa Cable

This project was originally made in metal strip wire in my first book, “Spotlight on Wire.” It is a great way to demonstrate how you can apply skills used on one medium to another supply once you understand how to work with a material.

Materials needed:
18 inches 10mm wide leather strap
7-10 6mm beads
8-11 8mm beads (can substitute up to 3 for 10mm beads)
2 4mm snap rivets
12 inches Beadalon beading wire
2 2X1 crimp beads
Hook clasp of your choice

Instructions:
1. Punch two holes at one end of your leather approximately 16mm apart. The holes should fit your rivet post. Use an awl/pen to mark a hole every 10mm. Punch 14 holes for a 6.5” bracelet, 18 holes for a 7.5” bracelet and 22 holes for an 8.5” bracelet, although final size depends on your beads and clasp size as well.

2. Soak the leather lace in water for a few minutes to allow it to become supple.

3. Make a 4mm loop at the end of the beading wire, leaving a 1” tail and secure it with a crimp bead.

4. Place the back of the rivet post through the first hole in the leather and load the beading wire loop over it.

5. Place the rivet post through the second leather hole, securing the beading wire between the leather, and place the cap on the rivet. Hammer to secure the rivet.

6. Feed the beading wire and its tail up through the first hole in the leather and load and 8mm bead over both wires.

9. Feed both wires down through the second hole in the leather and trim the tail.

10. Load a 6mm bead onto the beading wire and feed the wire up through the next hole on the leather.  Repeat. Alternate bead sizes until you have gone through all holes in the leather.

11. Repeat the process for creating the ending loop as described in Steps 2 to 5, making sure to feed the beading wire tail back through the last bead before trimming, if possible and loading your clasp on the leather.

12. Place the bracelet around a can or bracelet mandrel to shape it as the leather dries.
