Make your own coiled beads using colorful wire and crystal beads using the Professional Coiling Gizmo.

Make a basic coiled bead with 4mm crystals: Thread at least 20 beads onto 24-gauge wire that's still attached to the spool. Place the end of the wire into the chuck on the Gizmo along with a mandrel, then start turning the handle. Make several turns to create a small wire coil. Then, place your thumb below the beads to apply gentle upward pressure as you slowly turn the handle. After the last bead, make a few more turns with bare wire. Trim the wire to remove the coiled bead from the mandrel.

To make a striped effect: Pass through alternating colors of beads.

To make an ombre effect: Pass through similar shades of beads from light to dark (or vice-versa).

To make several coiled beads with crystals: Load sections of crystals onto the wire before you begin. Turn the Coiling Gizmo to make the beaded coils, being sure to make longer bare wire coils between the beaded sections so you can cut them apart after you remove the coil from the mandrel.

Materials for the Necklace:
12 Swarovski Elements 4mm #5000 rounds
12 Swarovski Elements 4mm #5810 rounds
Swarovski Elements #6685 graphic pendant
1.5mm leather cord
large white shell open circle pendant
22-gauge Artistic Wire® bare phosphor bronze
Professional Coiling Gizmo from Beadalon
round-nose pliers
chain-nose pliers
wire cutters
Optional: button with shank or glue-on cord ends for clasp

1. Thread alternating pearls and crystals onto the wire.
2. Choose the mandrel for the Professional Coiling that fits over four cords and use it to make a beaded bead with the beaded wire.
3. Cut two strands of leather cord that are slightly longer than the desired length of the necklace.
4.  Thread the pendant onto the center of the cords. Place the shell pendant between the cords.
5. Pass the cords through the beaded bead. Use chain-nose pliers to squeeze the outer loops together slightly to hold them in place on the cords.
6. To finish the ends, knot a button onto one side. Fold the other ends into a loop to fit over the button and coil a piece of wire around base to hold the cords together. Or, glue cord-ends onto the ends of the necklace.
