STRAND #1:
1: Place a pearl and a bead cap onto a headpin; finish with a basic wire-wrapped
loop (see below). Repeat to create 57 (54 will go on the chain and 3 will
be added to the clasp).
2: “Strand 1” is the longest strand of the necklace; cut
a piece of chain the desired length.
3: Open a jump ring, then link it through the center link of the chain.
Slip on the top loop of two pearl components; close the jump ring. Add
one pair of pearl components to each alternate link of chain, placing
them evenly on both sides of the center link.
4: Open one jump ring, then add three closed jump rings and the round
portion of the clasp; close the jump ring. Each of the three jump rings
will hold a strand to the clasp.
5: Open one of the three jump rings attached to the clasp, link on the
last link of the chain, then close the jump ring.
6: The stick pearl is for the bar portion of the clasp. To make this
component, put a stick pearl on a headpin and finish with a basic wire-wrap
loop. Open 1 jump ring then add 3 jump rings and the top loop of the stick-pearl
component; close the jump ring. Open one of the three jump rings and attach
the other end of the chain.
Strand #2:
7: Cut a length of thread and add your needle. Determine how many pearls
you want on this strand then cut the French wire into the desired length,
to be used as spacers between the pearls. String one pearl and one piece
of French wire, alternating until the finished strand is just a bit shorter
than the pearl-and-chain strand. Add two 3mm beads to each end of this
strand.
8: Cut a very short piece of French wire, approximately ¼”.
String it onto your thread. Run the needle and thread through the 2nd
of the three jump rings attached to the clasp, and back through the 3mm
bead. Center the piece of French wire on the jump ring, making sure that
the wire stays centered as you pull the thread tight; the French wire
will form a loop around the jump ring as you tighten the thread. Tie a
knot then go through the next 3mm bead; make another knot. Trim your thread-end
close to the knot.
9: Repeat Step 2 with the other end; attaching to the second jump ring
on the stick-pearl toggle bar.
STRAND #3:
Step 10: Cut a length of chain just shorter than the second strand and
attach each end to the 3rd jump ring on each half of the clasp.
Your necklace is complete.
Making a wrapped loop: - Hold the round-nose pliers horizontal and grasp
the piece of wire right above the bead. With your free hand, bend the
tip of the wire to a 90 degree angle. Place the pliers so the jaws are
now vertical, with one jaw above and the other below the angled section
of wire. Bring the tip of the wire up and over the top jaw of the pliers
so it is now facing down at about an 80 degree angle. Place the pliers
so they are horizontal again, one jaw in the loop and one jaw out and
to the right. With chain- or flat-nose pliers or your free hand, grasp
the tip of the wire and direct it behind the length of wire above the
bead.
Grasp the loop with chain-nose pliers. Grasp the tip of the wire with
flat-nose pliers and wrap it around the straight length of wire above
the bead, making approximately three revolutions. Trim any excess wire
then press in the cut end with chain-nose pliers.
