Materials Needed
Illustration board
Fabric of your choice
Poly-urethane varnish
E-6000 glue
Toothpicks
Stiffened felt - black
Ultrasuede - black
Seed and glass beads to coordinate with the fabric
Needle and thread
Soft Brush
Pin back

Instructions
1. Cut out a shape from the illustration board. Cut out a slightly larger shape from whatever fabric you choose. Spread glue on the illustration board and smooth the fabric in place over the board.
2. Glue the back of the illustration board at the edges and glue the fabric to the back side. Snip the fabric evenly along the edges if needed – especially around any curves. This creates a smooth edge. Allow to dry.
3. Brush one coat of poly-urethane over the fabric using a soft brush. Wash the brush after each use. Allow to dry. Apply a second coat and allow to dry.
4. Lightly sand the fabric cabochon. This will remove any rough areas, creating a smooth finish.
5. Apply 3 to 4 more coats of poly-urethane, allowing the cabochon to dry thoroughly between coats.
6. Glue the fabric cabochon to a piece of stiffened felt, slightly larger than the finished cabochon. Allow to dry.
7. Using the beaded-backstitch, bead 6 rows of size 11 beads around the fabric cabochon.
8. Add a beaded fringe to the bottom of the third row of beading, if desired.
9. Glue ultrasuede to the back to cover up the threads from the embroidery. Trim the ultrasuede. Glue a pin back to complete the brooch.
