Always use safety glasses when working with heating tools and
cutting metal.
1. Use safety glasses. Apply heat to the copper foil with the torch to
achieve color variations.
2. Cut mica the size desired for the window.
3. Paint water color or use fabric, paper, collage, flat beaded sample.
Make sure the picture for the window is the same size as the mica. Cut
to make it the same as the mica.
4. Measure and cut the copper foil to fit the mica – leaving ¼
in edge around the outside. Then “roll” or bend over a small
amount of copper to eliminate the sharp edge -approximately 1/8 of an
inch.
5. Once the edges are folded in – layer the copper/picture/mica
– centered in the copper piece. Make sure the copper edge is up.
Bend the remaining copper edge over the top of the mica surface to “frame”
the picture. Bend the sides in first then the top and bottom last.
6. Cut 3 feet of 24 gauge copper wire and gently bend it in half by looping
it over the ½ way point on your pliers. Make a wrapped loop at
that ½ way point. Place one length of the wire on one side of the
copper picture and one on the back side of the necklace. Wrap the copper
wire around the piece like you would a package … make sure you make
the other wrapped loop on the other top side for the hanger. Finish by
wrapping the wire several times around the top section of the package
wrap. Secure by looping it around several times.
7. Cut a 5 inch piece of 18 gauge wire – burn balls on each end
using the propane torch. Bend a little less than ½ of it in a decorative
manner. Insert it into the hangers. Pull the center of the 18 gauge wire
up between the 2 hangers area – just enough to create a small triangle
shape. This is where the neck cord will attach and hang. Continue to bend
the other side of the wire in a decorative manor to complete.
8. Larks head the waxed linen to the middle of the wire hanger. Add beads
to embellish. Tie the waxed linen in the back to the desired length and
cut off any excess.
