Using copper sheeting as an accent to beads and charms one can really design and create individual pieces of jewelry.  Shapes, dimensional options and texture can lend amazing results to charms and beads.

Techniques
Liver of sulfur patina on copper
Heat on copper to anneal and patina
Cutting metals, forging metal, designing around specific beads, charms and coins

Materials needed
Copper sheeting, beads, wire, charms, coins

Tools
Hammer
Bench Block
Awl
Metal file
Brass Brush or bench polisher
Hole punch
Scissors
Pliers
Liver of sulfur

Instructions
1. Begin the necklace by preparing the copper sheeting.  Cut the copper sheeting to enhance the shape of the charm, beads, or coin.

2. Heat the copper to anneal the metal and make it soft to easily wok with.  Hold the copper piece in the hot part of the Propane torch.  Quench in water.  Hammer or forge the edges of the cut piece to create a deckled effect and remove any sharp edges using a hammer and bench block.  Dip the piece in a liver of sulfur bath to obtain a darkened effect, texture, stamp, or go back to the torch to reheat, either annealing the metal again, or to create color.
3. Punch holes in the copper where the wire will connect the charms and copper together with wire. Holes can also be punched to give the copper a surface design.

4. Use head pins, or hammer the end of wire to make a paddle.  Take a variety of beads or use one focal bead to make a dangle.  Finish with a wrapped loop to hand the dangle.

5. Make a wrapped loop by holding the wire with pliers where you want the loop to be.  Pull the end of the wire around the pliers the pliers to create a teardrop shape.  Wrap the end of the wire wound the wire shaft towards the beads.

6. Connect the copper, individual beads, charms and coins together with a large wrapped loop that has a triangle shape to give the items some room to swing.

7. Using copper that is dimensional or shaped to enhance the beads or charms can make the beads a focal point of the design.

8. Earrings can be designed using smaller beads, thinner gauge wire and connected with ear wires.

9. Try many variations and shapes to give you many looks and styles for this project.
