Fast & Fabulous Necklace
by Katie Hacker
Printed suede is a hot trend! Here's an easy way to try it out and learn two knots in the process.
Materials & Tools:
1m length of 5mm printed suede
6" length of 3mm black bolo cord
10" length of 1.5mm black round cord
two 5.5mm Glue-n-Go end caps with clasp
35mm Katiedids double-circle pendant
Scissors
Loctite Gel (or other industrial strength adhesive)
Instructions:
- Position one end of the bolo cord inside the inner channel and coil the leather inside the channel to determine the proper length. Cut off the extra cord.
- Repeat Step 1 to place bolo cord inside the outer channel of the pendant.
- Remove both pieces of bolo cord from the pendant, place a few drops of glue inside the channels, replace the bolo cords; let it dry.
- Determine how long you want to make the necklace, then cut the printed suede accordingly.
- Fold the printed suede cord in half and place the fold through the front of the pendant.
- Place the ends of the printed suede cord through the fold and pull it tight to make a lark's head knot.
- Wrap the black leather cord in a loose coil around both printed suede cords just above the lark's head knot.
- Place the ends of the black leather cord through the center of the coil in opposite directions.
- Pull the ends of the black leather cord to secure the spiral knot.
- Glue an end cap to each end of the printed suede cord; let it dry.
Tip: Use leftover printed suede cord to make a matching bracelet: You can stitch beads onto the surface of the cord, string large-hole beads onto it or wrap it with wire and beads to embellish your design!
